Revitalizing Rural Art: The Exhibition Bringing Culture to the Heart of the Village
In 2021, a personal exhibition was held in Radchino, a village near the city of Vologda. All the paintings looked appropriate and justified only in the context of the village. Mostly, they were still lifes, but there were also a few plein airs. These paintings were a continuation of the landscape and the house.
To fully understand the spirit of these paintings, the viewer needed to be in the space where they were created. This rural series of paintings is important not only as paintings, but also because of their surroundings. Therefore, the best way to understand the painting outside the village was to have a photograph of the painting in its rural environment.

The aim of this exhibition is to highlight the profound respect that space and natural light can have on the way we experience art.
For too long, we have viewed paintings in the sterile confines of the gallery, where artificial light and controlled environments create a disconnected, clinical experience. But when we allow paintings to exist in the natural world, exposed to the light and air that surrounds us, they take on a new life, infused with a vibrancy and vitality that can't be replicated in a museum or gallery.
By showcasing the same paintings in both indoor and outdoor settings, we hope to illustrate the transformative power of space and light, and to invite viewers to see these works in a new way.
Ultimately, we believe that this exhibition will inspire a greater appreciation for the interconnectedness of art and the natural world, and encourage a more holistic approach to the way we view and experience art.
